Penn State football unranked in AP top 25 poll despite opening season with win over Purdue

Penn State football has still not found itself in the latest version of the Associated Press top 25.

The Nittany Lions are unranked after opening their season with a win during Week 1. They received 122 voting points, second-most of the unranked teams behind only Oregon at 131. Houston is the No. 25 ranked team with 143 voting points.

Penn State was also unranked entering the season.

They didn’t join the poll after defeating Purdue 35-31 Thursday night in their season opener on the road at Ross-Ade Stadium. The Nittany Lions will try to follow that victory with a win against the Ohio Bobcats Saturday in their home opener at Beaver Stadium.

There are four Big Ten teams ranked in the poll — Ohio State (No. 3), Michigan (No. 4), Michigan State (No. 14) and Wisconsin (No. 19). Penn State, Minnesota and Purdue are also receiving votes.

Penn State is set to face three currently ranked opponents this season — the Buckeyes, Wolverines and Spartans.

Here are the complete rankings following Week 1 of the college football season.
