Penn State moves up to No. 8 in penultimate College Football Playoff rankings
The fifth College Football Playoff rankings of the 2022 season are here and Penn State has cracked the top 10. The team is 10-2 overall, 7-2 in the Big Ten and has a 10-win season for the first time since 2019.
The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 8 by the College Football Playoff selection committee in the rankings revealed Tuesday night.
That’s three spots higher than last week when they came in at No. 11. The ranking comes a few days after the Nittany Lions defeated Michigan State on Senior Day 35-16 while multiple teams ahead of them — like Clemson and LSU — lost.
The Nittany Lions have faced two teams that were in this week’s Top 25 — the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines and the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes — and will likely play another in their bowl game.
Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State were the only Big Ten teams ranked this week.
The Nittany Lions will find out their bowl destination Sunday after this week’s conference championship games take place.
