Penn State QB Christian Veilleux announces intent to enter transfer portal

One of Penn State’s freshman quarterbacks plans to enter the transfer portal.

Redshirt freshman Christian Veilleux made the announcement on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. He can not enter the portal until it opens on Dec. 5.

Veilleux seemed like the heir apparent to Sean Clifford until Drew Allar came in as part of the 2022 class. Veilleux performed well against Rutgers last season, completing 15 of his 24 pass attempts for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s 28-0 win. He fell to third on the depth chart behind Allar and Clifford this season, however, and only played when the Nittany Lions had big leads and Allar had sufficient reps.

His departure leaves the Nittany Lions with only three scholarship quarterbacks set to be on the roster next year — Allar, Beau Pribula and incoming recruit Jaxon Smolik.

Veilleux’s expected departure is the third since the start of fall camp, joining running back Caziah Holmes — who transferred to Florida State — and defensive end Ken Talley — who transferred to Michigan State.
