Virginia’s Marques Hagans will be Penn State football’s next wide receivers coach
Penn State has its new wide receivers coach. Virginia associate head coach/wide receivers coach Marques Hagans will be the next wide receivers coach at Penn State, per multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.
The program confirmed the hire Monday morning, with statements from head coach James Franklin and Hagans.
“We are excited to add Marques to our family,” Franklin said. “He is a veteran coach, whose experiences playing both quarterback and wide receiver at the highest levels will bring tremendous value to our program. Marques has a proven track record of developing receivers throughout his career and has worked alongside many coaches I respect. Marques is a relationship-based leader, whose family values align with the culture of Penn State. We are thrilled to welcome Marques, his wife, Lauren, and sons, Christopher and Jackson to Happy Valley.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be led by James Franklin and work with his tremendous coaching staff,” Hagans said. “I am excited to be part of the tradition of Penn State Football, to uphold the standard of excellence and to work relentlessly to compete for championships. My wife, Lauren, and our boys cannot wait to get to Happy Valley.”
Hagans will also hold the title of offensive recruiting coordinator.
His hiring comes after Franklin fired Taylor Stubblefield, the team’s previous wide receivers coach.
The latest addition to the coaching staff spent 10 seasons as Virginia’s wide receivers coach after spending two at the school as a graduate assistant. Prior to that, he spent five seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver following five years at quarterback with the Cavaliers.
Penn State has added two transfer portal wide receivers since Stubblefield’s departure.
Former Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas and former Florida State wide receiver Malik McClain have both committed to the program, with the latter already enrolling.
Their additions will bolster a room that will feature KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Harrison Wallace III, Omari Evans and a host of young players.
