Penn State football adds State College standout as preferred walk-on

State College’s Finn Furmanek won’t be going far from home to continue his football career. The Little Lion will enroll at Penn State and join the team’s football program as a preferred walk-on, he announced on Twitter Friday afternoon.

Furmanek played quarterback for the Little Lions but lists himself as an athlete on his Twitter page. He racked up 1,593 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and only threw six interceptions as a senior with State High.

He helped lead the team to the state semifinals this season before falling to Harrisburg.

The high school senior is listed at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, giving him the size to potentially play tight end, especially with the athleticism he possesses. He tacked on 96 carries for 589 yards and and seven touchdowns on the ground and 15 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown as a receiver.

Furmanek joins former Little Lions player Keaton Ellis — who is on scholarship — and Jashaun Green — who is also a walk-on — on the Penn State roster. Both of those players are safeties, and Green is a former teammate of Furmanek’s.

The Nittany Lions will open their season on Sept. 2 against West Virginia in Beaver Stadium.
