Big Ten releases new schedule. Here’s how Penn State football will be affected
The Big Ten has announced its new scheduling format for football and there will be some notable changes.
The conference will no longer have divisions beginning in 2024 and each team will have up to three protected rivals that they play each season.
Penn State is the only team in the conference that will have no protected rivals and will therefore have no guarantees on who they play within the conference year in and year out — which means there will be years the team does not play recent rivals Michigan and Ohio State.
Along with the changes, the Big Ten announced who each team will play in 2024 and 2025, along with who will host each game.
The Nittany Lions will face Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin on the road and Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and USC at home in 2024.
They’ll then take on Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and USC on the road and Illinois, Minnesota, Rutgers and UCLA at home in 2025.
Dates and times for the games were not announced.
