You can be part of a mural commemorating legendary Penn State RB Franco Harris. Here’s how
As the year anniversary of Franco Harris’ death approaches, fans are invited to join a commemoration of the legendary Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers running back.
The NFL Hall of Famer died on Dec. 20, 2022, just before the 50th anniversary of his famous “Immaculate Reception” play. This week, the Penn State All-Sports Museum announced that it will honor him with a Franco Harris Memorial Photomosaic Mural, asking fans and community members to contribute photos.
“One of the things for which Franco was best known was his willingness to stop and take photos with fans,” a Facebook post from the museum reads. “So we are asking people from every intersection with Franco’s life ... to submit their photos to the submission website.”
For this project, fans will be able to send in photos to be placed in the museum’s main lobby as part of a full mural. The photos must be of people with Harris — not just of Harris alone or photos of people wearing his jersey. The submission site also allows people to provide caption information about when and where the photo was taken and other details about the experience of meeting Harris.
The mosaic can store 7500 photos, and the museum plans to use as much of that space as possible. To submit a photo, visit the submission website at livemosaics.com/upload/M5372799/p0.
