Will Penn State QB Drew Allar play against Michigan State? James Franklin gives update
Penn State quarterback Drew Allar left Saturday’s win over Rutgers with an injury, but it does not seem he will miss any added time.
Head coach James Franklin said the team expects to have their starter Friday when the Nittany Lions take on Michigan State.
“We expect Drew to go,” Franklin said at his Monday press conference. “... It’s too early for me to say, we have not practiced yet since the game, but all indications, I would think we’ll be back to normal.”
Allar struggled to raise his right arm — his throwing arm — above shoulder height following the win over the Scarlet Knights, and his absence led to backup Beau Pribula getting extended action for the team.
Pribula finished off the victory, helping the offense score 17 points in just under a half of football. He is still set to back up Allar if the usual starter is ready to go, but his involvement in the game could be increased. The redshirt freshman shared the field with Allar for a play on Saturday and that could continue to be a part of the offense moving forward — as could other packages for the backup.
“Just like we planned on last week, I still think both of those guys will have roles,” Franklin said. “I think Beau will be ready to go. He did a great job. He didn’t flinch, the staff didn’t flinch, the players didn’t flinch. (He) went in and made plays like we expected him to make.”
The Nittany Lions close their season out Friday night when they take on Michigan State at Ford Field in Detroit. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
