Penn State CB Daequan Hardy declares for 2024 NFL Draft, will play in Peach Bowl

Penn State will lose another one of its starting cornerbacks following this season.

CB Daequan Hardy announced he will enter the 2024 NFL Draft instead of returning for his final year of eligibility. Hardy made the announcement on Twitter.

Johnny Dixon, one of the team’s outside corners, is out of eligibility after this season, while Kalen King is widely expected to enter the draft — with cornerbacks coach Terry Smith saying on the program’s National Signing Day stream that the team will be losing three corners.

Hardy will be playing in the Peach Bowl as his last game as a Nittany Lion. He previously said that at the team’s bowl media day and reiterated it in his statement on Twitter.

He leaves the program after being a stalwart in the slot, while adding to his skillset this season. Hardy was asked to play on the outside this year and even returned punts — taking two of them back for touchdowns. He has five career interceptions, two of which came this season, and 3.5 career sacks.

Hardy would have had one more year of eligibility because he played in the 2020 season, when all athletes were granted an extra year of eligibility due to COVID.
