Penn State football game vs. West Virginia resumes after more than 2-hour weather delay
Penn State’s road game against West Virginia was delayed more than two hours Saturday due to weather after both teams retreated to their respective locker rooms at halftime.
With three minutes left in halftime, officials suspended the game at 2:04 p.m. due to nearby lightning strikes in the area. Because the NCAA requires no nearby strikes for a half-hour time period, the game did not resume until 4:23 p.m.
The Nittany Lions held a 20-6 halftime lead after a scoring a touchdown 26 seconds before the half. At the break, PSU quarterback Drew Allar had 199 passing yards and three TDs while his top target, Harrison Wallace III, boasted 117 receiving yards and two scores.
Penn State was set to receive the second-half kick.
During the weather delay, fans were required to leave the seating area in the stadium and were told to seek shelter on the concourse or return to their vehicles. They were able to return, with their game ticket, once play resumed.
Monongalia County, which includes Morgantown, remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. Saturday, according to an alert issued by the National Weather Service. That watch began at 1:25 p.m.
