Penn State moves up in the AP top 25 after overtime win over USC. Here are the full rankings
Penn State moved up one spot in the Associated Press Top-25 poll after Saturday’s overtime win against USC, becoming the second highest-ranked team in the Big Ten.
The undefeated Nittany Lions leapfrogged Ohio State for the No. 3 spot after the Buckeyes fell short Saturday night against Oregon, 32-31. Oregon moved up one spot to No. 2, with Texas staying put at No. 1 in the latest poll, which was released Sunday afternoon.
After Penn State, Oregon and Ohio State, there are three other ranked Big Ten teams: Indiana (No. 16), Illinois (No. 22) and Michigan (No. 24). Nebraska and Iowa also received votes.
With 1,380 voting points, Penn State was separated from No. 2 Oregon by 113 points but had only 23 more points than Ohio State.
It’s the Nittany Lions’ highest spot in the poll in seven years. In that 2017 season, they reached as high as No. 2 after blowing out Michigan in Beaver Stadium. They were ranked No. 4 last week and started the season at No. 8.
The Nittany Lions have a break this week and return to action on Oct. 26 against Wisconsin on the road. And of course all eyes are on Nov. 2, when Penn State faces Ohio State at Beaver Stadium.
