Penn State QB Drew Allar leaves game vs. Wisconsin early with apparent injury. What we know
Penn State star quarterback Drew Allar left Saturday’s game against Wisconsin at the end of the first half with an injury and did not return. His status for next week was not immediately known.
Penn State head coach James Franklin did not have much of an update on Allar after the 28-13 victory over the Badgers.
“I’m not gonna get into a whole lot of medical stuff right now, especially when I don’t have a whole lot of information,” he said. “... It was, is he gonna be mobile enough to give us a chance to run the offense the way we need to run the offense?”
Allar took a sack during the team’s final drive of the first half and appeared to injure his left leg. He stayed in the game for two more plays, but overthrew a pass on third down and was unable to put the necessary pressure on his left leg.
Allar then went into the tunnel right before halftime and came out for the second half with a brace on his left knee. He had a towel on his head when the Nittany Lions opened the second half, and he remained in his uniform. He was not in street clothes.
Backup QB Beau Pribula came on in relief and finished 11-of-13 passing for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Allar’s health is paramount to the team’s success the rest of the season. The quarterback has so far thrown for 1,640 yards and 12 touchdowns and remains a major reason why Penn State stands at a perfect 7-0.
Allar wasn’t the only Nittany Lion to leave the game early, either. Star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton suffered an injury in the first half, and tried to play in the second half. The defensive end didn’t move well, however, and came out after just one play.
No update was offered on Dennis-Sutton after Saturday’s game either.
