Maryland’s coach took issue with Penn State’s late touchdown. See James Franklin’s response

Penn State football head coach James Franklin and Maryland head coach Mike Locksley had a tense exchange following Saturday’s game at Beaver Stadium, right after the Nittany Lions’ backups scored a passing touchdown as time expired.

It gave Penn State a 44-7 final score over Maryland, with Locksley calling the late score “bull----” in his postgame press conference.

But Franklin issued a passionate defense during his own postgame press conference, saying that it’s his job to put the third- and fourth-string players in the game.

“When the 3s and 4s get to go in the game, they get to play football,” Franklin said. “Those guys deserve to play football.”

He also pointed to what he called a “change in college football.”

“We are trying to play as long as we can, make the playoffs and be seeded as high as possible, and scoring as many points and a point differential matters, all that matters,” he said. “And if you don’t get that, it’s really not my problem.”
