Penn State tight end Tyler Warren goes No. 14 overall in 2025 NFL Draft
A second Nittany Lion has gone off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft. Tyler Warren was selected No. 14 overall by the Indianapolis Colts. He joins Abdul Carter as Penn Staters to go in the first round of this year’s draft, after Carter went No. 3 overall to the New York Giants.
Warren going 14th makes him the third-highest drafted tight end in Penn State history, with only Ted Kwalick going No. 7 in 1969 to the San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Brady to the New York Jets at No. 9 in 1995 going higher. Those three are also the only Penn State tight ends to go in the first round of the draft, although four Nittany Lion tight ends have gone in the last five NFL Drafts.
“I think there’s plenty of tight ends that I played with that I felt were just as good as me and really talented tight ends,” Warren said at Penn State’s pro day. “So just to carry on the tradition of what’s becoming a serious tradition at Penn State in the tight end room is really cool for me, and I take a lot of pride in it. And I know the other guys in the room now and who have come before us take a lot of pride in it as well.”
Warren broke out for Penn State in 2024 after taking over for Theo Johnson, who was drafted by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 draft. He was the focal point of Andy Kotelnicki’s offense, racking up 1,233 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns on 104 receptions — leading the team in all three stats. He also added 218 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on 26 carries and completed three of his six passing attempts for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Despite all of that success, Warren wasn’t focused on being the top tight end in the class.
“I just know I’m going to be a team player that’s going to come in and do the job and just do whatever I can to help a team win,” Warren said at Penn State’s Pro Day. “That’s kind of why I think I’m a good fit to be a football player on a team.”
The do-it-all tight end should start right away in Indianapolis and become one of the team’s top receiving options.
