Star Penn State defensive player opts out of Pinstripe Bowl matchup with Clemson
One of Penn State’s best defensive players has opted out of the Pinstripe Bowl.
Defensive tackle Zane Durant announced he will not be playing in the game against Clemson and will opt out to prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft. Durant made the announcement on Instagram Monday night.
“I want to thank Penn State University for the memories and experiences that it has given me,” Durant’s statement read. “For the past four years, I want to thank everyone that I got the chance to work with while attending Penn State. I also want to thank the Lord because without him this wouldn’t be possible. Thank you momma and pops for everything y’all instilled in me. I want to thank [former Penn State head coach James Franklin] for giving me the opportunity to attend Penn State, and for being a mentor and example to me.”
Durant finishes his college career with 22 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and an interception in four years. He had his best year in 2024, earning 11 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Durant is the first Nittany Lion to opt out of the team’s bowl game, which will be played on Dec. 27 in New York City at Yankee Stadium.
