Penn State starting cornerback A.J. Harris no longer with team. What to know

One of Penn State’s starting cornerbacks this season has departed the program. Cornerback A.J. Harris is no longer with the program, a Penn State spokesperson confirmed to the Centre Daily Times.

Harris’ departure was first reported by Lions247’s Tyler Donohue.

He’s expected to enter the transfer portal once it opens on Jan. 2, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Harris started the season with high expectations, with a chance to solidify himself as one of the best corners in the country and a top-50 draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after a very strong 2024 season — his first at Penn State. He struggled at times, with his role diminishing as the season went on.

His expected departure for the portal is the fifth so far among Nittany Lions, joining TE Joey Schlaffer, CB Elliot Washington II, DE Chaz Coleman and OG Alex Birchmeier.

This should be an active portal cycle for Penn State, with new head coach Matt Campbell expected to bring in plenty of players while many depart for a new destination.
