Source: Penn State defensive line coach Deion Barnes leaving for SEC job

Penn State will have to find a new defensive line coach for next season.

Deion Barnes is leaving to take a job coaching defensive ends and outside linebackers at South Carolina, a source told the Centre Daily Times.

ESPN first reported the news.

Barnes, who played defensive end at PSU from 2012-2014, leaves Penn State after rising up through the coaching ranks with the Nittany Lions. He was a graduate assistant from 2020-2022 and became the program’s defensive line coach in 2023, a role he has held since then.

He is the second assistant to leave Penn State for the Gamecocks, after running backs coach Stan Drayton did the same earlier in December.
