Source: Penn State to hire Cincinnati DC Tyson Veidt as new linebackers coach
Penn State has its new linebackers coach.
The Nittany Lions are hiring Cincinnati defensive coordinator Tyson Veidt to coach the position, a source told the Centre Daily Times on Saturday morning.
Keegan Nickoson of Bearcat Journal first reported the news late Friday.
Last year’s linebacker coach, Dan Connor, is currently expected to remain on staff as the assistant linebackers coach, according to the source, although it is possible that another program offers him a job coaching linebackers.
Veidt spent the last two seasons as Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator. But, prior to that, he spent plenty of time on Penn State head coach Matt Campbell’s staffs at Toledo and Iowa State. He was Campbell’s linebackers coach from 2014-2015 at Toledo and then was the assistant head coach and linebackers coach at Iowa State from 2016-2023 before taking the job with the Bearcats.
That should round out the defensive staff for the Nittany Lions, with Ikaika Malloe coaching the defensive line, Deon Broomfield coaching the secondary, Terry Smith likely taking a role coaching the secondary, and now Veidt coaching the linebackers.
