Four-star transfer portal receiver Chase Sowell commits to Penn State

Penn State has added a potential No. 1 receiver.

Chase Sowell announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions Monday morning on his Instagram.

Sowell is a former Iowa State receiver, and joins the program after catching 32 passes for 500 yards and two touchdowns in his lone season with the Cyclones. He began his career with Colorado before transferring to East Carolina for two years, where he had 81 receptions for 1,300 yards and four touchdowns in 2023 and 2024.

The former Cyclone is the third receiver to commit to Penn State from head coach Matt Campbell’s former school, joining Brett Eskildsen and Karon Brookins. Sowell is the most highly touted of the trio, with a four-star rating from 247Sports and On3, with the former ranking him as the 12th best receiver available, and the latter having him at 13th.

Sowell will also come to Happy Valley with the same quarterback he had in Ames, after Rocco Becht committed to Penn State Sunday afternoon. Like Becht, Sowell will have one year of eligibility remaining.
