Sources: Penn State to hire Boston College’s Savon Huggins as running backs coach

Penn State has found its running backs coach.

The Nittany Lions are set to hire Boston College running backs coach Savon Huggins, according to multiple sources.

247Sports was the first to report the hire.

Huggins joins Penn State with an extensive background in the northeast. He was a high school coach at Somerville High School in New Jersey from 2016-2018 and at St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey in 2019, then spent a year at Buffalo as a wide receivers assistant before going to UMass for his first running backs coach job. He spent part of 2021 as a recruiting advisor at Boston College before becoming the program’s running backs coach in 2022, where he’s been ever since.

His hiring will finish out the first Penn State coaching staff under head coach Matt Campbell.

Huggins replaces Stan Drayton, who left to coach running backs at South Carolina.
