Former Penn State tight end Adam Breneman was hired Wednesday to manage a state Senate campaign.

He joined the campaign of Republican state Rep. Mike Regan, who is running for a Senate seat to represent parts of Cumberland and York counties.

“I am thoroughly excited to be on board with the Regan campaign,” Breneman said in a statement. “I have known Mike for years, and I am privileged to join the team that will help elect him as the next state senator from Pennsylvania’s 31st District. I have followed Mike’s career as a United States marshal and, more recently, as a conservative state representative, and I believe he will provide the leadership our communities need.”

Breneman, a Mechanicsburg native, announced last week that his football career was ending due to a chronic knee injury. He graduated in three years in December with a degree in business management and is pursuing a master’s degree at Penn State.

Regan said of Breneman: “Adam is a community leader and a rising star in central Pennsylvania politics, specifically in Cumberland and York counties. His leadership on and off the field at Penn State, and record of dedicated service to worthy causes, speak to Adam’s high character. I am excited that he is joining our team, and I place my full confidence in his abilities to run my campaign.”
