Penn State men’s hockey names Alex Limoges the 2020-21 captain; Cole Hults picks up Big Ten honors
Senior Alex Limoges was announced captain for Penn State men’s hockey’s 2020-21 season on Wednesday, with juniors Aarne Talvitie and Paul DeNaples named assistant captains.
Limoges ranked sixth in the Big Ten last season, with 32 points comprised of 11 goals and 21 assists.
Last season Limoges also became the eighth Nittany Lion to reach 100 points, ending his junior season with 103.
Limoges will become the eighth captain for the Nittany Lion’s program.
“I’m thrilled and honored about the opportunity of becoming captain, it’s humbling to have been chosen by my teammates and coaches,” Limoges said in a statement. “I’m eager and motivated to get back on the ice and finish, next year, what we started this year.”
Talvitie and DeNaples are no strangers to leadership roles and captaincy.
Talvitie captained the Finnish U20 team to gold at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in 2019, and DeNaples captained his Tier 1 Junior team, the Sioux Falls Stampede, during his 2017-18 senior season.
Cole Hults Named 2019-20 Big Ten Player of the Year
On Monday, former Penn State hockey defensemen Cole Hults was named 2019-20 Big Ten Player of the Year and 2019-20 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Hults is the first Nittany Lion in program history to win Big Ten Player of the Year.
He was also named one of the first All-Americans for Penn State, along with former teammate Nate Sucese, in April.
Hults signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings in April, joining five other former Penn State players, including Peyton Jones, Liam Folkes, Brandon Biro, Evan Barratt and Sucese, to sign with professional organizations this offseason.
Jones signed a two-year, one-way contract with the Colorado Eagles, the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, and Folkes signed a two-year deal with the Bakersfield Condors, the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers.
Biro signed a two-year contact with the Buffalo Sabres, Barratt signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, and Sucese signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes.
