Penn State hockey is coming to Beaver Stadium for back-to-back outdoor games this winter — and the athletic department released more details Wednesday on how to snag tickets for what it called a “historic moment.”

The women’s hockey team will take on Robert Morris at the football stadium on Jan. 31 and, later that day, the men’s team is set to play Michigan State there. For that Big Ten contest, non-student ticket prices will start as low as $28 (upper decks) and will go up to $78 (Mount Nittany Club).

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Oct. 15. However, the presale starts a day earlier and is open to three different groups — Penn State football season ticket-holders, men’s hockey season ticket-holders and members of the Nittany Lion Club. (This game is already included in current men’s hockey season ticket packages, but those season ticket-holders are able to buy additional tickets during the presale.) A student ticket lottery, for $24 tickets, will take place from Oct. 6-10.

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com, an official partner of Penn State, or by calling 1-800-NITTANY between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“To bring the excitement of college hockey to Beaver Stadium is truly special,” athletic director Pat Kraft said in a written statement announcing the plan in August. “Having our men’s program face a premier Big Ten opponent in Michigan State and our women’s program face Robert Morris on this stage reflects the incredible growth and national profile of Penn State Hockey and provides an unforgettable experience for our student-athletes, alumni and fans. We can’t wait to see Hockey Valley come alive in Beaver Stadium.”

It wasn’t immediately known how Penn State was operating the women’s tickets for the Beaver Stadium game. The email outlining sales only mentioned the men’s game, and it wasn’t clear if the women’s tickets would be sold separately, included with the men’s tickets, or otherwise.

Three Penn State officials did not immediately respond to an email seeking clarification.

Regardless, these games have been a long time in the making. Whispers of the possibility of an outdoor hockey game at Beaver Stadium have circulated around Happy Valley since at least 2017, but logistical and facility constraints largely prevented that from happening. However, with the winterization of the stadium ahead of last year’s home College Football Playoff game, a lot of those constraints were eliminated.

And the timing for both hockey programs seems impeccable.

The women’s team advanced to the NCAA regional semifinal last season, while the men’s team made it to the Frozen Four. Since the end of the season the men’s team has added multiple NHL-level talents, including generational player Gavin McKenna, who is widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The women’s team opened its season over the weekend with a pair of wins against St. Lawrence, a rematch of last year’s regional semis. And the men’s team will open its season Friday on the road against Arizona State.

Kraft, the athletic director, has said for years that Beaver Stadium can and should be a venue for other events outside of football. In April 2024, the stadium became a concert venue for the second time in its history when country star Luke Combs performed there in front of 80,000 people, and a beer festival was held on the field a month later.

Construction is ongoing at Beaver Stadium, which is in the middle of a $700 million renovation that should be finished by August 2027.
