Penn State hockey’s Gavin McKenna sets two program records in 11-4 win over Ohio State
Penn State’s hockey phenom put together a jaw-dropping performance Friday night in Pegula Ice Arena, breaking two records in the process.
Gavin McKenna finished the team’s 11-4 win over Ohio State with eight points, including seven assists — both of which were records. The Nittany Lion forward, who is projected to go No. 1 overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, scored his lone goal in the first period of the game to make it 2-0. Penn State never trailed in the matchup, the first of two on the weekend against the Buckeyes.
The previous records for points in a game was five, while the assists record was four. Teammate Aiden Fink recorded four assists in the game, tying the previous record.
The team’s 11 goals also tied a program record.
Penn State’s win brings their record to 19-9-1 overall with an 11-7-1 record in conference play. The Nittany Lions are the No. 6 team in the country and will play the Buckeyes at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
