Women’s hockey completes weekend sweep

Thanks to a pair of goals from Shannon Yoxheimer, Penn State women’s hockey snagged a 2-0 win over RIT on Saturday at Pegula Ice Arena.

After winning 1-0 on Friday, the Nittany Lions secured a College Hockey America (CHA) series sweep for the third time in program history.

It’s also the first time in a CHA series that Penn State did not allow a goal.

The Nittany Lions struck on their only power play of the game, as Yoxheimer’s goal with 5:37 left in the second period gave Penn State a 1-0 lead. It was Yoxheimer’s 10th career power play goal.

Yoxheimer added to Penn State’s lead with 4:52 left in regulation, giving her five goals on the season.

The shutout — Penn State’s fourth on the season — was ensured by Hannah Ehresmann’s 15 saves in net.

The Nittany Lions (9-14-5, 5-4-5 CHA) host Syracuse for a weekend series, starting Friday at 7 p.m.
