Penn State men’s hockey goaltender Matthew Skoff signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement to play for the Reading Royals on Monday.
The native of McKees Rocks and four-year starter for the Nittany Lions immediately joins the East Coast Hockey League team. The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Skoff alternated starts nearly the entire 2015-16 season with Eamon McAdam and holds every career goaltending record for Penn State, which finished 21-13-4 this past season.
Skoff posted an 8-5-3 record with a 3.26 goals-against average and .902 save percentage, helping the team to a third-place finish in the Big Ten and semifinal appearance in the conference tournament. He had a winning record in three of his four seasons and won at least seven games all four years.
