Penn State hockey forward Eric Scheid agreed to a deal with the American Hockey League’s Portland Pirates, the AHL team and the Nittany Lion men’s hockey program announced Wednesday.
The AHL team is an affiliate of Florida Panthers, and the deal is an amateur tryout agreement.
Scheid played three seasons of hockey for Penn State after one season at Alaska Anchorage. He is the program’s third all-time leading scorer with 77 points, amassing the total with 38 goals and 39 assists. He scored at least 20 points each season with the Nittany Lions.
Scheid joined former teammates Eamon McAdam and Matthew Skoff, who recently signed professional contracts.

McAdam signed a contract with the New York Islanders, and Skoff agreed to a contract with the East Coast Hockey League’s Reading Royals.
