Penn State women’s soccer: Nittany Lions thump Maryland, win 1-0
The Penn State women’s soccer team dominated Maryland in possession and put away the Terrapins 1-0 Thursday night at Jeffrey Field.
Megan Schafer scored the lone goal for the No. 11 Nittany Lions (9-2-2, 4-1-1 Big Ten), pouncing on a rebound with 13:47 left for her sixth goal of the season after an initial try by Mallory Weber.
Penn State kept up the offensive pressure throughout the match, with a 30-1 shot disparity, including 12-0 shots on goal.
Rachelle Beanlands was busy, making 11 saves for the Terrapins (5-8, 0-5), while Britt Eckerstrom did not make a save in the team’s sixth shutout of the season.
The Nittany Lions, who have won three straight, host Indiana on Sunday.
