Penn State men’s soccer: Northwestern nips Nittany Lions

Northwestern scored two goals in the final minutes to spoil Senior Day for Penn State, with a 2-1 Wildcat win Sunday afternoon at Jeffrey Field.

Nathan Dearth scored the winner with 9:06 left in regulation, heading in the ball off Mike Roberge’s corner kick.

Connor Maloney’s seventh goal of the season started the scoring 10:43 into the contest, firing the ball from outside the box to the top corner of the net, with help from Riley Grant.

The Nittany Lions (6-7-3, 2-4-2) held the lead until Roberge tied it with 11:39 left, setting the stage for the winner.

Zak Allen made six saves for the Wildcats, and Evan Finney didn’t have a stop in the Penn State net.

The Nittany Lions next head to the Big Ten Tournament starting Saturday.
