Rodriguez among women’s soccer finalists for Honda Sport Award

Penn State’s Raquel Rodriguez is among four nominees for the Honda Sport Award for women’s soccer, The Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced Thursday.

The Honda Sport Award is given to the top women’s athletes in the 12 NCAA sports. West Virginia’s Kadeisha Buchanan, Rachel Daly of St. John’s and Virginia’s Emily Sonnett are the other women’s soccer finalists.

The winner will be announced next week.

Rodriguez was also named a first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-American on Thursday.

Rodriguez, who has a 3.80 grade point average, is majoring in recreation, park and tourism management. She scored the game-winning goal to lift Penn State past Duke in the national championship game.
