Penn State women’s volleyball rallies for win over Maryland

No. 10 Penn State bounced back from a poor first set to drop Maryland 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 Friday night.

Simone Lee put down 17 kills, Heidi Thelen added 10 kills and Haleigh Washington notched eight kills and nine blocks to lead the Nittany Lions (19-7, 11-4 Big Ten). Bryanna Weiskircher gave out 41 assists to go with 16 digs, Kendall White led with 19 digs and Ali Frantti posted 14 digs.

Penn State hit just .186, with a 52-45 edge in kills and a 12-11 margin in blocks. Maryland, which has lost 20 straight to the Nittany Lions, hit .166.

Gia Milana’s 20 kills, Angel Gaskin’s five blocks, Taylor Smith’s 37 assists and 17 digs and Kelsey Wicinski’s 19 digs led the Terrapins (10-17, 2-13).

The Nittany Lions visit Ohio State on Saturday.
