The service game Penn State women’s volleyball fans were so used to seeing in Rec Hall was on full display at the Pan American Cup on Saturday.
Micha Hancock delivered 11 aces in the U.S. national team’s opening-match win over Venezuela 25-9, 25-16, 25-11.
The setter, who was the 2014 AVCA National Player of the Year while helping the Nittany Lions to the national championship, posted her ace total on 21 service attempts. She added two kills. She was the team’s setter for the first two sets, with former Wisconsin standout Lauren Carlini running the offense in the third as the team hit .371 in the match.
The ace total isn’t even a single-match record. Hancock set that last year with 13 in the bronze medal match, and posted 50 in last year’s tournament.
Another former Nittany Lion, Megan Courtney, added two kills and two blocks for Team USA, which meets Columbia on Sunday to continue play in their six-team pool
