Penn State women’s volleyball wins 14th straight

The No. 1 Penn State women’s volleyball team notched its 14th straight victory Wednesday night with a sweep against Iowa.

The Nittany Lions made quick work of the Hawkeyes 25-10, 25-17, 25-12.

Simone Lee paced PSU with 16 kills, while she and Kendall White also added 15 digs. Haleigh Washington recorded five blocks, and Abby Detering finished with 20 assists.

The Nittany Lions hit .350 while limiting the Hawkeyes to .040.

Penn State (24-1, 14-1 Big Ten) will next take on Maryland at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rec Hall.

Women’s gymnastics

PSU welcomes 2 commits

Melissa Astarita and Dymiana Cox both signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday to compete for the Penn State women’s gymnastics team starting in the 2019 season, according to Nittany Lions coach Sarah Brown.

Astarita, who’s best at the vault and floor, finished 12th in the all-around at the 2017 Level 10 Regionals, while Cox — whose strongest events are floor and beam — finished 11th in the all-around at the 2017 Junior Olympic Nationals.
