Russ Rose brought home seven NCAA championships for Penn State since the beginning of his tenure as head coach of its women’s volleyball program.

That storied career comes to an end with Rose announcing his retirement on Thursday.

During his time with Penn State, Rose racked up the all-time record in career wins with 1,330, has been to each NCAA volleyball tournament since its inception in 1981, has produced 112 All-Americans, never had a losing season, is a 16-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, has had 14 Big Ten Conference Players of the Year, 6-time All-Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year and is 5-time AVCA National Coach of the Year, among his many accomplishments.

A number of current and former Penn State coaches, other volleyball coaches, media members and other onlookers of the women’s volleyball program took to social media to congratulate the all-time winningest coach in the history of the sport.

“No doubt many will comment on what he meant to the game, but to those of us in Rec Hall he was simply the best,” Penn State men’s volleyball coach Mark Pavlik wrote in a statement tweeted by the team.
