Senior Night celebrated with Penn State’s sweep of Northwestern
Behind an efficient hitting night, the Penn State women’s volleyball team honored its senior class in proper style Wednesday night.
The No. 7 Nittany Lions swept past Northwestern 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 at Rec Hall in the final regular-season home match.
Penn State (26-4, 15-4 Big Ten) hit .408 as a team, making just nine errors for the best hitting night against a Big Ten opponent all season.
Ali Frantti led the way with 13 kills on .500 hitting, and Aiyana Whitney had 10 kills on .643 hitting to go with four blocks. Megan Courtney produced nine kills, Haleigh Washington posted five blocks, Bryana Weiskircher gave out 41 assists and Keeton Holcomb had a dozen digs.
Symone Abbott’s 13 kills paced the Wildcats (14-16, 6-13), who hit .220 and lost the blocking battle 9-4.
Before the match, the Nittany Lions honored their four seniors: Whitney, Courtney, Kendall Pierce and Lara Caraway.
Penn State closes the regular season Saturday night at No. 5 Nebraska.
