Penn State’s Nugent named men’s volleyball national player of week
Penn State’s Chris Nugent was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Sports Imports Division I-II National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The junior outside hitter, who earned Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Week honors on Monday, had a big weekend in a pair of 3-0 sweeps. He had 11 kills on .600 hitting with an ace against No. 14 Ball State, and 17 kills on .500 hitting with an ace against Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
The AVCA honor is the first of Nugent’s career, the 16th in program history and the first since Aaron Russell earned it last season.
Nugent leads the EIVA and is 10th nationally at 4.14 kills per set this season.
The No. 9 Nittany Lions (4-2) begin EIVA play Friday, visiting St. Francis (3-3, 0-0).
