Win streak at 9 for Penn State men’s volleyball

Penn State earned its ninth straight win Saturday, sweeping Princeton 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 in Rec Hall’s Sough Gym.

Chris Nugent paced the attack for the No. 7 Nittany Lions (10-2, 5-0 EIVA) with a dozen kills, and Aiden Albrecht added 10 kills. Matt Callaway and Matt Seifert led the blocking battle with nine and five stuffs, respectively, while Royce Clemens picked up five digs and Taylor Hammond directed the offense to .283 hitting with his 33 assists.

Penn State dominated the block 15.5-5.5, forcing the Tigers into .198 hitting. Princeton (2-8, 2-3), led by Kendall Ratter’s 11, led in kills 40-39 and in digs 36-21.

On Friday, Nugent had 18 kills on .419 hitting and Callaway added 10 kills on .600 hitting in a 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 win over New Jersey Science and Technology. Callaway also had five blocks while Clemens recorded 11 digs and Hammond gave out 55 assists.

Penn State hit .387 and NJIT, paced by Jabarry Goodridge’s 16 kills, hit .392. Luke Robbe added 10 kills on 11 error-free swings to hit .909 for the Highlanders.

Penn State remains home on its 11-match homestand next weekend, hosting new EIVA team Charleston and George Mason, coached by former Nittany Lion assistant coach Jay Hosack.
