The best team in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association picked up the bulk of the honors Tuesday.

Penn State’s Chris Nugent was named Uvaldo Acosta Memorial EIVA Co-Player of the Year, Royce Clemens picked up Newcomer of the Year honors, and Nugent, Matt Seifert and Taylor Hammond all grabbed first-team All-EIVA honors.

Nugent shared the top honor with Jabarry Goodridge of New Jersey Institute of Technology. Nugent’s 376 total kills and 3.80 kills per set average both rank second in the conference behind Goodridge. Nugent’s 31 service aces leads the team.

Clemens is tied for the EIVA lead with 260 digs and is second in digs per set at 2.55.

Also honored Tuesday was Bob Sweeney EIVA Coach of the Year Jay Hosack, who guided George Mason to a second-place finish in his first season after previously serving as a Nittany Lion assistant coach.

Penn State hosts the EIVA Championships this week, with the Patriots facing No. 3 seed Harvard at 5 p.m. Thursday before No. 4 St. Francis meets Penn State at 7:30 p.m. The championship match is 7 p.m. Saturday at Rec Hall.
