On Thursday, about a month after Win Magazine ranked Penn State No. 1 in its preseason rankings, Intermat followed up by — unsurprisingly — ranking the wrestling team atop their preseason Tournament Power Index.

The Nittany Lions received five top seeds. They had eight wrestlers overall collect a ranking and have seven in the top 4 of their respective weight classes.

The five returning NCAA champions — Zain Retherford (149), Jason Nolf (157), Vincenzo Joseph (165), Mark Hall (174) and Bo Nickal (184) — are all listed as favorites to start the preseason. Nick Nevills (285) and Matt McCutcheon (197) both came in at No. 4 at their weight classes.

Corey Keener, who transfered to the team from Central Michigan, starts out the season at No. 15 at 133 pounds.

In the team race, the Big Ten swept the top-3 spots with Ohio State (No. 2) and Michigan (No.3) trailing Penn State. Minnesota (No. 7) and Iowa (No. 9) were the only other Big Ten teams in the top 10. Rutgers (No. 13), Illinois (No. 14) and Nebraska (No. 17) were the other Big Ten schools in the top 25.
