Penn State wrestling picks up commitment from highly ranked recruit Alex Facundo

Penn State wrestling nabbed a huge recruit Friday morning with the commitment of FloWrestling’s fifth-ranked Class of 2021 prospect Alex Facundo.

The two-time Michigan state champ from Davison High School and two-time Cadet World bronze medalist junior is ranked No. 4 at 160 pounds by FloWrestling, and No. 1 at 170 by InterMat.

Facundo is Penn State’s first top-100 commit for 2021, according to Flo.

He posted his decision on his personal Instagram account, saying it’s “an honor to be a part of something as special as Penn State’s legacy.”

“It’s been a long journey ever since I was a little kid,” Facundo wrote in the post. “All the hard work, sacrifices, pain, blood, sweat, and tears were meant to happen for a reason. I am blessed to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Penn State University! Thank you to everyone who has supported and and helped me these past 12 years and the people who have been there for me since Day 1.”

Facundo is coach Cael Sanderson’s second Michigan pickup in the past two weeks, as Flo’s second-highest-ranked unsigned wrestler in the 2020 class Austin Boone officially signed his National Letter on Intent with the Nittany Lions on Jan. 29. Boone is a three-time state champion senior from Lowell High School. Flo has Boone ranked No. 2 at 145 pounds, and No. 94 in his class.
