Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson has locked himself into extra years with the Nittany Lions. The head coach agreed to a contract extension with the program, according to a Penn State spokesperson.

No further details of the extension will be released.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported the news, which came from former Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour.

Sanderson is one of the most successful coaches in the history of college athletics, winning nine national championships as a head coach — all of which have come at Penn State — and four as an athlete.

He began his tenure with the Nittany Lions in 2010 and won a national title in his second season with the program, beginning a run of four straight titles. He then led Penn State to four straight titles again, this time from 2016-2019.

Sanderson won his ninth title this season when he and the Nittany Lions crowned five individual national champions to bring him to 32 with Penn State on top of the two he coached while leading Iowa State from 2007-2009.
