Penn State maintains 5 top-ranked wrestlers with the end of the regular season in sight

Penn State once again had five wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their weight class in the latest Intermat rankings. Beau Bartlett (141 pounds), Levi Haines (157 pounds), Carter Starocci (174 pounds), Aaron Brooks (197 pounds) and Greg Kerkvliet (285 pounds) were all atop their respective weight classes in Tuesday’s rankings.

The team’s 10 starting wrestlers are all ranked for the fifth week in a row as the Nittany Lions continue rolling through the regular season.

They have four in the top 10 outside of the top-ranked wrestlers — Braeden Davis (sixth, 125 pounds), Tyler Kasak (ninth, 149 pounds), Mitchell Mesenbrink (sixth, 165 pounds) and Bernie Truax (sixth, 184 pounds). Aaron Nagao is ranked No. 11 at 133 pounds.

The team maintained its spot atop the NWCA top 25 poll, as it stayed unbeaten at 10-0. The Nittany Lions defeated Iowa and Rutgers in their two duals since last week’s rankings.

The Big Ten as a whole has continued its dominance, with five schools ranked in the top 10 and eight overall in the top 25. Nebraska is the highest ranked Big Ten team behind Penn State at No. 3, with Iowa (No. 4), Ohio State (No. 6), Michigan (No. 10), Minnesota (No. 12), Rutgers (No. 14) and Indiana (No. 23) also ranked.
