Penn State wrestling finally releases 2024-25 schedule. Here’s what you should know

Penn State wrestling publicly released its 2024-25 schedule Tuesday afternoon, with the slate showing the Nittany Lions will twice host duals in the much-bigger Bryce Jordan Center this season.

Overall, coach Cael Sanderson’s program will host seven duals, with five appearing at PSU wrestling’s longtime home in Rec Hall and two set for the larger on-campus venue that usually hosts concerts and basketball games. The first dual at the nearly-16,000-seat BJC — Rec Hall’s capacity is about 6,500 — will take place against Iowa on Jan. 31, while the second will happen just a week later against Michigan on Feb. 7.

Starting times for duals and tournaments after Jan. 1 are still to be determined.

Penn State will open the season Nov. 16 by hosting the NWCA All-Star Classic Exhibition, which is not an official NCAA event or part of the team’s season ticket package. Four-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci, who is pursuing an unprecedented fifth title, previously told the CDT that fans would be able to see up-close there how he’s recovered from last season’s right leg injury.

“So, if anybody’s wondering how it is, make sure you’re at the NWCA All-Star Classic, and you’ll find out,” he said last month, after adding he feels “brand new and a lot better.”

The Nittany Lions will officially begin the NCAA season a day later, Nov. 17, by hosting Drexel. Other home duals at Rec Hall will include Wyoming (Dec. 15), Michigan State (Jan. 10), Maryland (Feb. 9) and American (Feb. 21). Away duals include Lehigh (Dec. 8), Nebraska (Jan. 17), Rutgers (Jan. 24), Ohio State (Feb. 14) and Illinois (Feb. 16).

Those dates do not include the Army Black Knight Invitational (Nov. 24), nor the Journeymen Duals (Dec. 22) in Nashville, with scheduled opponents that include Binghamton, Arkansas-Little Rock and Missouri.

Penn State has won 11 of the last 13 national team titles. A non-Big Ten team last won the national championship in 2006 (Oklahoma State).
