Penn State wrestling set up to create more history at Journeyman Collegiate Duals

The last time Penn State lost a wrestling match was Jan. 31, 2020, 19-17 to Iowa. It was the second loss of the season that year.

Fast forward, and the Nittany Lions have won 140 of their last 142 duals. Their closest win was a 20-16 victory over Penn on Dec. 3, 2021.

On Saturday, Penn State heads to Nashville, Tennessee, for the Journeymen Collegiate Duals, looking to tie and break the Division 1 dual winning streak that was set by Oklahoma State from 1937 to 1951. The Cowboys won 76 straight duals during that time frame.

The Nittany Lions take on North Dakota State (5 p.m.) and Stanford (7 p.m.). Should Penn State win both, it will set the new Division 1 mark, but tie the NCAA mark of 77, which was set by Division 2 St. Cloud State from 2017 to 2022.

It’ll just be another record that the Nittany Lions can claim during their dynastic run.

“I can’t really speak for anybody else. We’re just trying to get better and just trying to make progress as the year goes on,” said Nittany Lions coach Cael Sanderson when asked of the importance of winning. “(We’re) just looking forward to a couple more fun matches. It’s good for us to get on the road as a team. We talk about it all the time, it’s good bonding and team building.”
