Field hockey

Whitlark’s OT goal lifts State College to victory

Ava Whitlark’s goal 1:11 into overtime gave the State College field hockey team a 3-2 victory over Newport on Monday afternoon at South Track Field.

The score was Whitlark’s second of the game, and Rebecca Bonness also netted a goal for the Lady Little Lions. Maddie Tambroni picked up an assist and keeper Grace Biddle made six saves for the win.

Sarah Flanders scored both Newport goals.

Girls’ soccer

Penns Valley pulls away from P-O

Penns Valley scored four goals in a span of just over 13 minutes of the first half in a 6-0 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola on Monday.

Katie Lovallo and Hannah Montminy each had a goal and an assist, while Danae Hurd, Maria Lovallo, Kiera Whitman and Emma Lachat also netted goals for the Lady Rams. Sydney Riegel picked up an assist as well.

Dayna Brown and Morgan Hurd combined for seven saves and the shutout as Penns Valley outshot the Lady Mounties 32-7.

Bellefonte sees 2 hat tricks in road win

Madalyn Morelli and Mallorie Smith each posted a hat trick Monday afternoon as Bellefonte rolled past Clearfield 6-1.

The three-goal performance gave Morelli, a freshman, a team-leading five scores on the season while Smith has four. Mia Johnson, Bree McDaniel and Mykayla Cole all had assists for the Lady Red Raiders (2-3).

Gabbie Pighetti and Addyson Manning teamed up in goal for the win, and Sara Snyder had the Bison score.

Moshannon Valley drops Grace Prep

Clare Marsh scored a pair of goals, but Grace Prep fell 6-2 to Moshannon Valley on Monday.

The Damsels’ goals were netted by Madison O’Donnell, Whitney Stiner, Tressa Lumadue, Michaela Kitko, Summer Adams and Elaina McClelland.

Abby Bulick made 10 saves in the Lady Storm net.

Girls’ volleyball

State College serves up win over Red Land

State College dominated from the service line and got an all-around night from sophomore Kate Lachendro in a 25-8, 25-12, 25-9 victory over Red Land on Monday.

Lachendro posted seven kills, seven aces, six digs and two blocks. Jess Irwin posted 10 kills and five aces, and the Lady Little Lions (2-1) served up 20 aces as a team. Leah Henderson directed the offense with 17 assists and Erin Lutz posted eight digs.

“We’re starting to get some kids back from injuries,” Lady Little Lions coach Chad Weight said. “We’re finding some normalcy. Slowly but surely we’re getting people healthy.”

SJCA falls in 4 sets to Mo Valley

Moshannon Valley needed four sets to knock off St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy on Monday 17-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-16.

Maggie Mangene and Ruthanna McMurtrie paced the offense for the Lady Wolves (1-2) with seven kills apiece, while Ana Legaspi posted three blocks. Aubrey Weiss and Emma Mallison each delivered a pair of aces.

Girls’ tennis

Lady Little Lions blank Cougars

State College posted a whitewash of Harrisburg in Mid Penn Conference tennis on Monday, sweeping every match 6-0, 6-0.

Singles wins were earned by Kelly Vanden, Catelyn Janac and Amelia Dodoo, while doubles victories were posted by the teams of Jasmine Cao and Keya Ahrestani, and Saoirse Hopp and Leah Patzkowsky.
