Today in high school sports: Sept. 14, 2017
Daniel Catchmark recorded two goals in five minutes Thursday, as the Bellefonte boys’ soccer team beat Philipsburg-Osceola 3-0.
Catchmark tallied his first goal in the seventh minute. The Red Raiders outshot the Mounties 26-8.
Luke Copertino had the other score for Bellefonte, which hosts Tyrone on Monday.
P-O hits the pitch again at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bald Eagle Area.
Rams blast Scarlet Dragons
SPRING MILLS Penns Valley poured it on from the starting whistle in a 5-1 rout of Central.
Sal Castiglia had two first-half goals while Sam Kupp and Jeremiah Manning added a goal each in the first half for the Rams.
Alex Castiglia had the final goal for Penns Valley, which picked up assists from Lukas Winkleblech (2), Carter Felker and Kupp.
Noah Clapper had the Scarlet Dragons’ lone goal.
Little Lions win in OT
LEWISBERRY Neither team could score in regulation, but State College needed just six minutes into overtime to win 1-0 over Red Land.
Tom Sowers soared a corner kick to the box and found the head of Jake Hall for the winner.
The Little Lions outshot the Patriots 23-4, and moved to 4-1-1 on the season.

2nd half lifts State College
STATE COLLEGE The Lady Little Lions capitalized off three second-half goals in the 3-0 victory over Red Land on Thursday.
All three came within an eight-minute span. Erica Feese started the scoring at the 51:22 mark, and she passed the ball for Payton Porter goals at the 54:36 and 58:45 marks.
State College’s Kristen Lenze made three saves in the winning effort.
Meadowbrook Christian too much for Grace Prep
MILTON Mackenzie Baughman had contributions on all but one of Meadowbrook Christian’s goals in a 4-1 win over Grace Prep.
Baughman recorded two goals and assisted on another.
Clare Marsh kept the Lady Storm from being shut out with a goal in the 74th minute.
Girls’ volleyball
Tyrone shuts out Bellefonte
TYRONE Anna Rupecki had eight kills for Bellefonte, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-0 loss to Tyrone.
Lauren Yeager led the Lady Red Raiders with 17 digs in the 25-21, 25-13, 26-24 setback. Shaelah Pepperman dished out 13 passes for Bellefonte.
Rockey leads BEA offense in win
WINGATE Madsion Rockey was instrumental in leading the Bald Eagle Area offense in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-18) win over Huntingdon.
Rockey led the Lady Eagles (3-0) with 30 assists, and she also added two blocks.
BEA’s offense had nine kills from Grace Hugar and seven aces from Peetie Ballock. On the defensive side, Alyson Onder recorded 11 digs for the Lady Eagles.
Boys’ golf
Little Lions finish 2nd
GRANTVILLE Tyler Nordblom and Alex Stewart each finished in the top 5 of the individuals as State College finished second out of six teams in Mid Penn match play at Manada Golf Club.
Nordblom’s round of 78 was good for third overall as Stewart finished fifth at 82. The Little Lions had a team score of 326.
Central Dauphin’s Garrett Engle was the overall medalist with a 74. The Rams were the lowest-scoring team at 320.
