Golf

St. Joe’s wins boys’ golf team title at Wheeling Invitational

The boys’ golf team for St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy captured the title at the Wheeling Invitational on Monday afternoon.

With three golfers all posting top-10 finishes, the Wolves posted a 25-over 235 team total at Sunnehanna Country Club, seven strokes better than runner-up Northern Cambria in the 13-team tournament.

Jack Mangene led the way at 6-over 70, tying Tyrone’s Andrew Ferguson for fifth place. Matt Steyers was seventh at 78 and Ryan Peachey took ninth with an 81. R.J. Marsh added a 96 for the Wolves.

Richland’s Brennen Moran led the field with his 72.

Philipsburg-Osceola took 12th as a team at 70 over, led by Brandon Singer’s 89.

On the girls’ side, State College’s Kaylee Richards tied for second with an 89, and P-O’s Halle Herrington finished fourth with a 92.

Bellefonte blanks BEA

Bellefonte used a pair of first-half goals and a solid defense to blank Bald Eagle Area 2-0 at Alumni Stadium.

Lynnsey Kauffman and Megan Elnitski scored the Lady Red Raider goals, with Mallorie Smith picking up an assist, as Bellefonte (5-4) picked up its fourth win in its last five games.

Gabbie Pighetti made five saves for the shutout. Charlee Harris made 11 saves for the Lady Eagles (4-4-1).

DeNezza, Marsh lead Lady Storm to win

Maddie DeNezza and Clare Marsh had roles in all of Grace Prep’s goals in a 4-0 win over Sunbury Christian Academy.

DeNezza scored her first goal of the year and added two assists. Marsh netted two goals.

The Lady Storm, who outshot Sunbury 24-4, also had a goal from Sarah Shearer and an assist from Abigail Galliano.

Lady Rams handle Tyrone

Penns Valley record three first-half goals in a 4-2 win over Tyrone.

Aliyah Fetterolf, Anna Korman and Sydney Riegel scored the first-half tallies for the Lady Rams. Hannah Montminy had the final goal.

Montminy and Addy Bair also had an assist for the Lady Rams, who outshot the Lady Golden Eagles 30-3.

Clearfield shuts out P-O

Anya Tocimak and Jocelyn Hutton did all they could to stop as many Clearfield shots as they could in a 4-0 loss for Philipsburg-Osceola.

Tocimak and Hutton combined for 19 saves on 29 Lady Bison shots, with 12 for Tocimak.

The Lady Mounties mustered five shots on goal.

Lady Little Lions cruise to win

Mica Ingram filled the stat sheet for State College in a 5-0 rout of Hollidaysburg at Memorial Field.

Ingram recorded two goals and two assists. She recorded the bookends of the first half as the Lady Little Lions led 4-0 at intermission.

Erica Feese, Mia Bokunewicz and Natalie Stewart had the other goals for State College. Payton Porter, Esther Seeland and Ava Michael all collected assists.

Girls’ volleyball

Lady Hornets sweep Lady Wolves

Maggie Mangene and Megan Marslak did what they could on the defensive side for St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy as it was swept by Juniata Valley 3-0.

Mangene and Marslak each had three digs in the Lady Wolves’ 25-18, 25-15, 25-11 loss.

Ruthanna McMurtrie and Mangene led the offense with two kills apiece, Anna Legaspi (two blocks) and Maddie Helser (two aces) also helped the team.

Bellefonte takes care of Central Mountain

Anna Rutecki recorded 14 kills to lead Bellefonte over Central Mountain 25-23, 25-15, 25-21.

Shaelah Pepperman guided the Lady Red Raiders’ offense with 23 assists. Phoebe Rowand contributed seven kills. Bellefonte’s Lauren Yeager had a busy night defensively with 27 digs.

Field hockey

State College shuts out Chambersburg

Kelsey Love scored two goals to lead State College over Chambersburg 3-0.

Sally Stahl had a goal and two assists for the Lady Little Lions.

Maddie Tambroni also had an assist for State College.
