The Philipsburg-Osceola football team stayed close to unbeaten Huntingdon early on, but in the end, the punishing Bearcats ran away from Philipsburg for a 61-6 win Friday night.

Huntingdon (8-0) scored twice in the first quarter for the early lead before the Mounties answered with a touchdown midway through the second quarter to make it a 14-6 game.

After T.J. Thompson ended a Huntingdon drive with an interception in the end zone, Thompson took a short pass, shook a tackle and raced 72 yards to the 1 before being dragged down from behind. Daniel Slogosky hit Josh Bryan on a slant pattern for the touchdown two plays later.

Huntingdon answered with two more touchdowns before halftime and 33 more points in the second half to put the game away.

Slogosky passed for 214 yards, but the Mounties’ running game managed just four yards on 30 attempts. Philipsburg-Osceola falls to 1-7 on the season.

“From our standpoint, I thought we played a good first half,” P-O coach Mike Mann said. “We gave up a couple long plays or it would have a little been closer at half, maybe 14-6 or 21-6. We couldn’t get any blocking. We couldn’t run the ball, get up the middle or anything. That makes for a long night.

“We’re in the middle of a meat grinder. We went from Central to Huntingdon to Clearfield next week. It’s a tough part of the season for us here at the end, but our kids will keep their heads up, come back Monday ready to practice and get ready for the next game.”
