Bellefonte’s Dylan Deitrich is the Centre Daily Times’ Male Athlete of the Fall Sports Season.
The Red Raiders’ senior quarterback began the year at wide receiver but moved over to the unfamiliar position under center in Week 2 — and proceeded to make history. He guided his team to its first district championship since 1999, and he rewrote the county history books in the process.
Deitrich became the first county quarterback to ever pass and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. He finished with 1,535 rushing yards — the most ever by a county signal-caller — and threw for 1,245. He broke the school record for rushing TDs with 26 and put up the best season, statistically, that Bellefonte has seen in more than a half-century. (Jerry Shivery had a school-record 1,792 rushing yards and 23 TDs in 1966.)
