Wrestling

SJCA finishes 2nd at Juniata Duals

MIFFLINTOWN St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy went 4-1 Saturday at the Juniata Duals, with six wrestlers going undefeated, to take second place in the tournament.

Keegan Rothrock (152 pounds) topped two ranked opponents in his perfect run. Joining Rothrock in going undefeated were Amonn Ohl, Ethan Kauffman, Lane Aikey, Zack Witmer and Caleb Dowling.

Shunk, Covalt perfect as Rams place 4th

MIFFLINTOWN Baylor Shunk (133 pounds) and Dillon Covalt (220) led the way for Penns Valley as the Rams competed in the Juniata Duals.

Shunk’s perfect run included a 5-4 decsion in quadruple overtime, two technical falls, a pin and a forfeit, while Covalt tallied three pins and two forfeits.

The Rams finished the duals in fourth place.

They next face off Tuesday at Huntingdon.

Girls’ basketball

BEA falls to Huntingdon

WINGATE Bald Eagle Area had trouble breaking through the Huntingdon defense, and was held scoreless in the second and fourth quarters in a 39-14 loss to the Bearcats.

Mariah Veneziano and Alexis Bucha each scored four points to pace the Lady Eagles, who trailed by only a point after the first quarter but surrendered 16 in the second to fall too far behind.

Boys’ basketball

Second quarter dooms BEA

BELLWOOD The Eagles couldn’t keep up with Bellwood’s pace in an 80-67 loss.

Bald Eagle Area was tied 17-17 after the first quarter — but then Bellwood went on a 27-10 run in the second quarter. BEA never recovered.

Mark Eminhizer scored a team-high 20 points, while Jordan Jones added 19 in the loss.
